What’s your favorite Mexican restaurant?
Fellow Gazette staffer Todd Dorman is looking for some recommendations for great Mexican food over on his blog, 24Dorman. So, foodies, where do you like to get your south-of-the-border fix? Recommended so far: Villa Patio in Marion (one of my favorites), La Salsita, Gringo’s (really?!) and Hacienda/Casa las Glorias. Hop over and add to the comments on his post.

What, you don’t like Gringos?
In fact, I had to say “really?!” when people started bringing up Fiesta del Sol.. Hmm…

La Salsita is my favorite — it’s the least americanized Mexican food that I have found around here. I did notice, unfortunately, that it doesn’t come up when I search the restaurant listings in the Gazette for Mexican food.

Gotta give a nod to El Super Burrito. Great tacos. Their tortas made a great lunch too.

Cancun/Villa’s Patio. Both are have the same owners and consistently have great food and good service.

El Rancho serves the best fajitas, and Super Burrito has great authentic burritos and tortas (Mexican sandwich).

What a great list. Next time I hear someone complain that there are no good restaurants in Cedar Rapids, I’m going to tell them to take a look at all the comments here and on Todd Dorman’s blog!

OK, I can’t pass this up. I judge my favorites not only by the food but the quality of the Margaritas. Nothing compliments a good Mexican meal than a great tasting Margarita, and I don’t mean the fruity kinds. So best food and tequila combos are at Villa Patio and Papa Juan’s. Patio Villa has is the best overall menu even though I have a particular fondness for the longtime Cedar Rapids tradition of Papa Juan’s. Most authentic food though has to be La Salsita and El Super Burrito.

Los Cabos on the Coralville strip – really good chili verde, asada, carnitas and mole.

I not only go by good food, but excellent staff. I would have to say that Hacienda Las Glorias on 1st Ave SW is by far the best! The waiters/waitresses there are excellent!!! and the food, especially the desserts, are out of this world make you forget where you are delicious!
